Plan a company website: costs, CMS, and choosing an agency
A professional company website can only be estimated meaningfully once the goal, content, functions, and ongoing tasks are defined. Compare the agreed scope of services and responsibilities—not just the final total.

What determines the cost of a company website?
The number of different page types, how the content is prepared, and the functions needed are decisive. Ten pages based on a good template can require less effort than a single product configurator. Depending on the case, photos, translations, data migration, and integrations are added. Separate one-time implementation for hosting, licenses, maintenance, and later changes. This makes it clear what you get at the start and which tasks remain ongoing.
What should be specifically included in the offer?
State who provides the texts and images, which pages are designed, and how many rounds of coordination are included. Describe functions using an verifiable result: “A project request reaches the responsible person with the agreed details” is more concrete than “a modern contact form.” Also agree on tests, handover, access credentials, training, and how to handle additional requests. For external services, ongoing fees and responsible parties must be known.
Our Example of a web concept shows how a site plan, a request path, and specific acceptance criteria fit together.
WordPress or another CMS?
WordPress can be a good fit if your team wants to maintain content themselves and the required functions can be implemented with a manageable technical foundation. Another CMS or an individual solution may be more suitable if approvals, roles, data models, or integrations place special demands. Decide based on maintenance tasks and operations—not on the longest list of features. A short test with the editors who will work with it later shows whether it is understandable in everyday use.
When is a relaunch worth it?
A relaunch makes sense when the existing structure permanently prevents key goals: offers remain unclear, mobile visitors can’t find a contact route, or changes are technically disproportionately time-consuming. Individual slow images or outdated texts do not automatically justify a rebuild. First, check what can be reused. Existing URLs, search visits, and forms should be included in the migration planning; necessary redirects are assigned individually.
How to turn that into a migration plan with a URL list and acceptance criteria is shown by our Example of a website relaunch in Bielefeld.
How do you recognize a suitable web agency?
Pay attention to whether the agency asks about your offer, your customers, and how incoming requests are handled. Have them explain the process, responsibilities, and later maintenance. A good conversation also makes limits visible: Which content is still missing? Which integration must be checked first? Specialized terms don’t replace a clear scope or a reachable point of contact. References help, provided their role and the actual services delivered are described in a way that is understandable.
Your preparation for the first meeting
Write down the three most important goals, recurring customer questions, and existing access credentials. Name a person who approves content. Show examples of the requests you want to receive and tasks that cost time today. Dreamseven then turns that into a suitable starting point: targeted revision, relaunch, or a new website. The offer describes the scope; a flat price without an assessment of the current situation would not be a reliable basis.
