Technical SEO and AI search: what companies should check

Search systems must be able to reach and understand a page first. For businesses, technical accessibility, clear content, and a suitable contact path are the foundation—even for AI-powered search.

Reachable, but not indexed yet

A page can work in a browser and still not appear in a search index. Check the status code, robots.txt, noindex statements, and the canonical address together. A sitemap shows search engines the intended URLs; it doesn’t force indexing. In Google Search Console, you can check which address Google knows and how a URL was processed. Fetching it yourself with a Googlebot identifier does not replace this evidence.

Which page answers which question?

Assign important search queries to a suitable page. A service page explains the problem, approach, scope, and next step. A guide supports a decision before hiring. Additional pages are useful when they provide stand-alone information. Replacing only location names or rewriting a service differently every time doesn’t create real guidance. Internal links should explain what in-depth information is behind them.

What do structured data deliver?

Structured data describe, for example, businesses, services, pages, and their relationships in a machine-readable format. They must match visible information. A real location must not be replaced by supposed branches. Reviews, references, and profiles need a reliable foundation. Correct data helps understanding; it doesn’t lead to a promise of prominent display.

What changes with AI search?

For its AI search features, Google doesn’t list any additional technical participation requirements beyond the relevant search fundamentals. For ChatGPT Search, OAI-SearchBot is relevant; GPTBot serves a different purpose. A website should keep public content accessible to the intended search crawlers and handle internal areas separately. Special marketing phrases for an AI or an llms.txt file don’t replace good content or a verifiable company identity.

How should success be measured in a meaningful way?

Differentiate visibility in search reports, visits to the website, and actually received requests. A reference from chatgpt.com indicates a visit through that channel, but it doesn’t automatically mean a recommendation. Clicking a phone number is not yet a handled call. Search positions alone also say little about the quality of requests. Changes should be documented with timeframe, target page, and expected impact.

A sensible order for your business

Start with technical errors that make important pages inaccessible. Then clarify unclear offers and missing answers. Next, improve internal links, mobile contact paths, and noticeable loading issues. Dreamseven prioritizes measures based on the actual findings. For assessment, shared access to existing search and analytics tools helps; guaranteed rankings or order numbers can’t be promised based on that.

For AI search, a second review is added. We note whether an answer to a specific customer question names the brand, which page it links to, and whether that source supports the statement. View the process of a GEO analysis.
